20 Facts of Life

20 Essential Scientific Facts of Life .

  1. You are unique, with your own special place in the Universe.

  2. All your energy, your life, your vision, originates from solar radiation absorbed and transformed by our planet's web of life.

  3. The atoms forming you right now are ashes from blown up stars. Over 96% of the atoms are Carbon, Oxygen, Hydrogen, and Nitrogen. The remaining 4% are mostly Calcium, Phosphorus, Potassium and Sulphur.
    The atoms in you right now are the exact same atoms that formed our planet 4.5 billion years ago. You take them from the planet and arrange them in new patterns to become you.

  4. You flow the planet's atoms through your body, replacing even the calcium in your bones and teeth. In four months you will have replaced more than 80% of your atoms with new ones. In a year, all but a few stubborn atoms will be new. A year ago you were completely different earth atoms. Next year you will be "materially" new, again.

  5. You are the dance of more than 100 trillion little animals. Every one of them is unique with it's own special place in the universe, and each one build's itself from a flow of constantly renewing earth atoms.

  6. The little animals synchronize their performance with languages made of electrical pulses, touch and molecules. Your conscious mind knows none of these languages and the little animals know nothing of your conscious language or thoughts. Yet their combined languages orchestrate your perception, your memories, and your reactions; including the words you learn, remember, think and say.

  7. All the little animals performing your body die, but you keep on living by constantly creating new ones to replace them. In two years most of the little animals will be new individuals. Your atoms and microscopic creatures are renewed but you will still be you.

  8. The DNA in every living cell in your body has never died. Every bit of it is at least 3.6 billion years old.

  9. Genes are memories encoded in your DNA.
    Some of your memories are 3.6 billion years old.
    Genes, like all memories, are meaningless unless they are remembered.
    Like words are meaningless unless remembered.
    Words are memories, too.

  10. Awareness is surprise.

  11. Mind is what awareness does to adjust to surprises.
    Mind is the cycle of Perception, Memory, Reaction.

  12. Life is a 4 phase cycle -
    1. bringing atoms, energy, information towards you;
    2. weaving these together with your expectations and needs;
    3. responding to any errors in your expectations;
    4. observing the effects of your responses and repeating the cycle.

  13. There is no such thing as an invariable cycle. That's what generates the surprise of awareness.

  14. One response to surprise is to communicate with other beings, to work together to avoid unpleasant surprises next cycle. Sharing cycles by knowing together.

  15. Consciousness is knowing together. (Con=together Scire=to know)

  16. Cells know together, so do we, so do societies, and ecosystems, too.

  17. Knowing together produces a new level of surprises. A brand new Awareness.

  18. Surprises pass through each of the levels of our becoming; our cells, our selves, our societies, our ecosystems. They are refreshed by forgetfulness.

  19. We eventually remember how to avoid bad surprises, and how to have the good ones again. This is learning. It is evolution, too.

  20. Awareness has learned a lot in 3.6 billion years. But the best thing it has learned is to write down these 20 facts and share them around.
